Brunswick Velodrome

Brunswick Velodrome, done & dusted.  More maths than I ever thought was needed for the reinstatement of this iconic BRUNSWICK sign that sits in pride of place on the steep curve of the velodrome. Home to the Brunswick Cycling Club, this velodrome was resurfaced a few years back, taking it from a concrete race track to a track with a sports surface. For a club established in 1916, they were keen to get their much-loved signage back. After a few years of asking, no one would take on the job until I came along.

Overall, the job took about 15 hours. 9.5 litres of the weirdest, sandiest non-slip paint, roller blisters, rolls and rolls of tape, sunburn that then got rained on, butt graze, swollen joints and all.  Return the following day to complete the special request above the W and apply the final coats. From what started as a mathematical mystery to me turned itself into a satisfyingly fun few days, working with ridiculous angles, letters that flared at the top, weather issues, gardeners blowing their grass clipping into painters tape that refused to stick to a gritty surface and of course, turning up to find half the letters graffitied!
